Chapter 1: Arjuna's Dilemmaअर्जुनविषादयोग
1:32
“O Govinda, of what use is a kingdom or enjoyment or even life itself when all those for whom we desire them are now arrayed on this battlefield?”
Sanskrit
किं नो राज्येन गोविन्द किं भोगैर्जीवितेन वा | येषामर्थे काङ्क्षितं नो राज्यं भोगाः सुखानि च ||
Transliteration
kiṁ no rājyena govinda kiṁ bhogair jīvitena vā yeṣām arthe kāṅkṣitaṁ no rājyaṁ bhogāḥ sukhāni ca
Commentary
Arjuna points out the absurdity - kingdom and enjoyment are desired for the sake of loved ones, but those very loved ones stand as enemies. Victory would be hollow.
