Chapter 1: Arjuna's Dilemmaअर्जुनविषादयोग
1:41
“An increase of unwanted population certainly causes hellish life both for the family and for those who destroy the family tradition. The ancestors fall down, deprived of the offerings of food and water.”
Sanskrit
सङ्करो नरकायैव कुलघ्नानां कुलस्य च | पतन्ति पितरो ह्येषां लुप्तपिण्डोदकक्रियाः ||
Transliteration
saṅkaro narakāyaiva kula-ghnānāṁ kulasya ca patanti pitaro hy eṣāṁ lupta-piṇḍodaka-kriyāḥ
Commentary
The consequences extend even to ancestors who depend on descendants for proper rituals. Family destruction breaks this sacred chain of obligation to past generations.
