13:1
“Arjuna said: O Keshava, I wish to know about nature and the person, the field and the knower of the field, knowledge and that which ought to be known.”
Sanskrit
अर्जुन उवाच | प्रकृतिं पुरुषं चैव क्षेत्रं क्षेत्रज्ञमेव च | एतद्वेदितुमिच्छामि ज्ञानं ज्ञेयं च केशव ||
Transliteration
arjuna uvāca prakṛtiṁ puruṣaṁ caiva kṣetraṁ kṣetra-jñam eva ca etad veditum icchāmi jñānaṁ jñeyaṁ ca keśava
Commentary
Arjuna asks about the fundamental philosophical categories: prakṛti (nature), puruṣa (consciousness), kṣetra (the field of experience), and kṣetrajña (the knower). These questions lead to profound metaphysical teachings.
