“Charity given at wrong place and time, to unworthy recipients, without respect or with contempt—that is declared tamasic.”
Sanskrit
अदेशकाले यद्दानमपात्रेभ्यश्च दीयते | असत्कृतमवज्ञातं तत्तामसमुदाहृतम् ||
Transliteration
adeśa-kāle yad dānam apātrebhyaś ca dīyate asat-kṛtam avajñātaṁ tat tāmasam udāhṛtam
Commentary
Tamasic giving is inappropriate in time, place, and recipient. It's given disrespectfully or with disdain. Such charity misses the point entirely and may even cause harm.
