“The seat of action, the doer, the various instruments, the many kinds of efforts, and finally destiny—these are the five factors.”
Sanskrit
अधिष्ठानं तथा कर्ता करणं च पृथग्विधम् | विविधाश्च पृथक्चेष्टा दैवं चैवात्र पञ्चमम् ||
Transliteration
adhiṣṭhānaṁ tathā kartā karaṇaṁ ca pṛthag-vidham vividhāś ca pṛthak ceṣṭā daivaṁ caivātra pañcamam
Commentary
Every action involves: the body (seat), the ego (doer), the senses (instruments), various movements (effort), and divine providence (destiny). The individual is only one factor among five.
