“The Blessed Lord said: The sages understand sannyasa as the renunciation of actions motivated by desire. The wise declare tyaga to be the relinquishment of the fruits of all actions.”

श्रीभगवानुवाच | काम्यानां कर्मणां न्यासं सन्न्यासं कवयो विदुः | सर्वकर्मफलत्यागं प्राहुस्त्यागं विचक्षणाः ||
Transliteration
śrī-bhagavān uvāca kāmyānāṁ karmaṇāṁ nyāsaṁ sannyāsaṁ kavayo viduḥ sarva-karma-phala-tyāgaṁ prāhus tyāgaṁ vicakṣaṇāḥ
Commentary
Krishna distinguishes two concepts: sannyasa is abandoning desire-motivated actions; tyaga is performing actions but surrendering their fruits. The latter is more practical for most people.
