“Renunciation of obligatory action is not proper. Abandoning it out of delusion is declared to be tamasic.”
Sanskrit
नियतस्य तु सन्न्यासः कर्मणो नोपपद्यते | मोहात्तस्य परित्यागस्तामसः परिकीर्तितः ||
Transliteration
niyatasya tu sannyāsaḥ karmaṇo nopapadyate mohāt tasya parityāgas tāmasaḥ parikīrtitaḥ
Commentary
One should not renounce prescribed duties. Abandoning them from confusion or laziness is tamasic renunciation—the lowest form, driven by ignorance rather than wisdom.
