“The great generals who have held you in high esteem will think you have fled from the battlefield out of fear, and thus they will consider you insignificant.”
Sanskrit
भयाद्रणादुपरतं मंस्यन्ते त्वां महारथाः | येषां च त्वं बहुमतो भूत्वा यास्यसि लाघवम् ||
Transliteration
bhayād raṇād uparataṁ maṁsyante tvāṁ mahā-rathāḥ yeṣāṁ ca tvaṁ bahu-mato bhūtvā yāsyasi lāghavam
Commentary
Arjuna's withdrawal would be interpreted as cowardice. Those who respected him - warriors on both sides - would dismiss him as a frightened man. His earned respect would evaporate.
