“O Arjuna, one who sees all beings as equal to oneself - whether in happiness or in sorrow - is considered the highest yogi.”
Sanskrit
आत्मौपम्येन सर्वत्र समं पश्यति योऽर्जुन | सुखं वा यदि वा दुःखं स योगी परमो मतः ||
Transliteration
ātmaupamyena sarvatra samaṁ paśyati yo 'rjuna sukhaṁ vā yadi vā duḥkhaṁ sa yogī paramo mataḥ
Commentary
The supreme yogi feels others' joy and sorrow as their own. This empathy, born of seeing the Self in all, is the highest spiritual attainment.
