“Those whose knowledge is carried away by various desires worship other gods, following various rituals according to their own nature.”
Sanskrit
कामैस्तैस्तैर्हृतज्ञानाः प्रपद्यन्तेऽन्यदेवताः | तं तं नियममास्थाय प्रकृत्या नियताः स्वया ||
Transliteration
kāmais tais tair hṛta-jñānāḥ prapadyante 'nya-devatāḥ taṁ taṁ niyamam āsthāya prakṛtyā niyatāḥ svayā
Commentary
Material desires distract people from the Supreme. Driven by specific wants, they worship lesser deities who can grant limited boons. Their own nature determines their chosen form of worship.
