Chapter 1: Arjuna's Dilemmaअर्जुनविषादयोग
1:34
“O Madhusudana, I do not wish to kill them, even though they might kill me. Not even for the sovereignty of the three worlds, let alone this earth!”
Sanskrit
मातुलाः श्वशुराः पौत्राः श्यालाः सम्बन्धिनस्तथा | एतान्न हन्तुमिच्छामि घ्नतोऽपि मधुसूदन ||
Transliteration
mātulāḥ śvaśurāḥ pautrāḥ śyālāḥ sambandhinas tathā etān na hantum icchāmi ghnato 'pi madhusūdana
Commentary
Arjuna declares he would rather be killed than kill his relatives. Not even dominion over all three worlds would justify such fratricide in his mind.
