“Know that rajas is of the nature of passion, arising from craving and attachment. It binds the embodied soul by attachment to action, O son of Kunti.”
Sanskrit
रजो रागात्मकं विद्धि तृष्णासङ्गसमुद्भवम् | तन्निबध्नाति कौन्तेय कर्मसङ्गेन देहिनम् ||
Transliteration
rajo rāgātmakaṁ viddhi tṛṣṇā-saṅga-samudbhavam tan nibadhnāti kaunteya karma-saṅgena dehinam
Commentary
Rajas is characterized by desire and attachment. It creates endless craving and binds the soul through compulsive activity—the drive to do, achieve, and possess.
