Chapter 14: Three Modes of Natureगुणत्रयविभागयोग
14:9
“Sattva attaches to happiness, rajas to action, O Bharata, while tamas, covering knowledge, attaches to negligence.”
Sanskrit
सत्त्वं सुखे सञ्जयति रजः कर्मणि भारत | ज्ञानमावृत्य तु तमः प्रमादे सञ्जयत्युत ||
Transliteration
sattvaṁ sukhe sañjayati rajaḥ karmaṇi bhārata jñānam āvṛtya tu tamaḥ pramāde sañjayaty uta
Commentary
Each guna has its characteristic attachment: sattva draws toward joy, rajas toward activity, and tamas—by obscuring wisdom—draws toward heedlessness and error.
