“Sacrifice that is offered according to scriptural rules by those not seeking reward, with the mind fixed on 'this is to be done'—that is sattvic.”

अफलाकाङ्क्षिभिर्यज्ञो विधिदृष्टो य इज्यते | यष्टव्यमेवेति मनः समाधाय स सात्त्विकः ||
Transliteration
aphalākāṅkṣibhir yajño vidhi-dṛṣṭo ya ijyate yaṣṭavyam eveti manaḥ samādhāya sa sāttvikaḥ
Commentary
Sattvic sacrifice is performed according to proper guidelines, without desire for results, simply because it is right. It is duty-based, not reward-based.
