“This threefold austerity, practiced with supreme faith by those not seeking reward, with disciplined minds—that is declared sattvic.”
Sanskrit
श्रद्धया परया तप्तं तपस्तत्त्रिविधं नरैः | अफलाकाङ्क्षिभिर्युक्तैः सात्त्विकं परिचक्षते ||
Transliteration
śraddhayā parayā taptaṁ tapas tat trividhaṁ naraiḥ aphalākāṅkṣibhir yuktaiḥ sāttvikaṁ paricakṣate
Commentary
When austerity of body, speech, and mind is performed with deep faith, without desire for results, by disciplined practitioners—it is sattvic, the highest form.
