“Sattvic persons worship the gods; rajasic, the demigods and demons; and tamasic people worship ghosts and spirits.”
Sanskrit
यजन्ते सात्त्विका देवान्यक्षरक्षांसि राजसाः | प्रेतान्भूतगणांश्चान्ये यजन्ते तामसा जनाः ||
Transliteration
yajante sāttvikā devān yakṣa-rakṣāṁsi rājasāḥ pretān bhūta-gaṇāṁś cānye yajante tāmasā janāḥ
Commentary
The object of worship reveals the quality of faith. Sattvic people worship higher divinities, rajasic people worship power spirits, and tamasic people worship lower entities.
