“Tranquility, self-control, austerity, purity, patience, uprightness, knowledge, wisdom, and faith—these are the brahmana's duties, born of their nature.”
Sanskrit
शमो दमस्तपः शौचं क्षान्तिरार्जवमेव च | ज्ञानं विज्ञानमास्तिक्यं ब्रह्मकर्म स्वभावजम् ||
Transliteration
śamo damas tapaḥ śaucaṁ kṣāntir ārjavam eva ca jñānaṁ vijñānam āstikyaṁ brahma-karma svabhāva-jam
Commentary
Those of brahmana nature are suited to contemplative, teaching, and spiritual work. Their qualities include calmness, discipline, learning, and faith.
