“Sanjaya said: To him who was thus overcome with pity, whose eyes were filled with tears and agitated, and who was full of sorrow, Madhusudana spoke these words.”
Sanskrit
सञ्जय उवाच | तं तथा कृपयाविष्टमश्रुपूर्णाकुलेक्षणम् | विषीदन्तमिदं वाक्यमुवाच मधुसूदनः ||
Transliteration
sañjaya uvāca taṁ tathā kṛpayāviṣṭam aśru-pūrṇākulekṣaṇam viṣīdantam idaṁ vākyam uvāca madhusūdanaḥ
Commentary
Chapter 2 opens with Sanjaya describing Arjuna's pitiful state - tearful, disturbed, and grief-stricken. This sets the stage for Krishna's transformative teachings that will follow.
