Chapter 2: Transcendental Knowledgeसांख्ययोग
2:2
“The Supreme Lord said: From where has this impurity come upon you at this critical hour? It is not befitting an honorable person, it does not lead to higher realms, and it causes disgrace, O Arjuna.”
Sanskrit
श्रीभगवानुवाच | कुतस्त्वा कश्मलमिदं विषमे समुपस्थितम् | अनार्यजुष्टमस्वर्ग्यमकीर्तिकरमर्जुन ||
Transliteration
śrī-bhagavān uvāca kutas tvā kaśmalam idaṁ viṣame samupasthitam anārya-juṣṭam asvargyam akīrti-karam arjuna
Commentary
Krishna's first words are surprising - He challenges Arjuna's despondency rather than offering sympathy. He calls it an impurity unbecoming of a noble warrior, neither spiritually elevating nor honorable.
