Chapter 2
Chapter 2: Transcendental Knowledgeसांख्ययोग

2:13

Just as the embodied soul continuously passes through childhood, youth, and old age in this body, so too does the soul pass into another body at death. The wise are not deluded by this.

Sanskrit

देहिनोऽस्मिन्यथा देहे कौमारं यौवनं जरा | तथा देहान्तरप्राप्तिर्धीरस्तत्र न मुह्यति ||

Transliteration

dehino 'smin yathā dehe kaumāraṁ yauvanaṁ jarā tathā dehāntara-prāptir dhīras tatra na muhyati

Commentary

This verse explains reincarnation through a simple analogy. Just as we don't consider ourselves dead when we grow from childhood to youth, death is simply another transition for the eternal soul. Understanding this removes the fear of death.
