2:19

One who thinks the soul kills, and one who thinks it is killed, are both ignorant. The soul neither kills nor is killed.

Sanskrit

य एनं वेत्ति हन्तारं यश्चैनं मन्यते हतम् | उभौ तौ न विजानीतो नायं हन्ति न हन्यते ||

Transliteration

ya enaṁ vetti hantāraṁ yaś cainaṁ manyate hatam ubhau tau na vijānīto nāyaṁ hanti na hanyate

Commentary

The soul transcends physical actions like killing or being killed. Those who identify with the body misunderstand the nature of the self. This verse challenges our deepest assumptions about life and death.
