Chapter 2: Transcendental Knowledgeसांख्ययोग
2:26
“If, however, you think the soul is perpetually born and always dies, still you have no reason to lament, O mighty-armed one.”
Sanskrit
अथ चैनं नित्यजातं नित्यं वा मन्यसे मृतम् | तथापि त्वं महाबाहो नैवं शोचितुमर्हसि ||
Transliteration
atha cainaṁ nitya-jātaṁ nityaṁ vā manyase mṛtam tathāpi tvaṁ mahā-bāho naivaṁ śocitum arhasi
Commentary
Even if Arjuna doesn't accept the soul's eternality and believes in constant birth and death, grief is still pointless. What is born must die; what dies will be reborn. Either way, lamentation is futile.
