Chapter 2: Transcendental Knowledgeसांख्ययोग
2:42
“Men of small knowledge are very attached to the flowery words of the Vedas, which recommend various fruitive activities for elevation to heavenly planets. O Partha, there is nothing else besides this, they say.”
Sanskrit
यामिमां पुष्पितां वाचं प्रवदन्त्यविपश्चितः | वेदवादरताः पार्थ नान्यदस्तीति वादिनः ||
Transliteration
yām imāṁ puṣpitāṁ vācaṁ pravadanty avipaścitaḥ veda-vāda-ratāḥ pārtha nānyad astīti vādinaḥ
Commentary
Krishna criticizes those who focus only on Vedic rituals for material gains. They miss the deeper spiritual purpose, becoming attached to the 'flowers' (attractive promises) while ignoring the 'fruit' (liberation).
