Chapter 2: Transcendental Knowledgeसांख्ययोग
2:6
“We do not know which is better - conquering them or being conquered by them. The sons of Dhritarashtra, whom if we killed we would not care to live, are standing before us.”
Sanskrit
न चैतद्विद्मः कतरन्नो गरीयो यद्वा जयेम यदि वा नो जयेयुः | यानेव हत्वा न जिजीविषाम स्तेऽवस्थिताः प्रमुखे धार्तराष्ट्राः ||
Transliteration
na caitad vidmaḥ kataran no garīyo yad vā jayema yadi vā no jayeyuḥ yān eva hatvā na jijīviṣāmas te 'vasthitāḥ pramukhe dhārtarāṣṭrāḥ
Commentary
Arjuna admits complete confusion about the right course. Victory would mean killing those whose death would make life meaningless. This paradox leaves him paralyzed.
