“While contemplating sense objects, one develops attachment to them. From attachment arises desire, and from unfulfilled desire arises anger.”

ध्यायतो विषयान्पुंसः सङ्गस्तेषूपजायते | सङ्गात्सञ्जायते कामः कामात्क्रोधोऽभिजायते ||
Transliteration
dhyāyato viṣayān puṁsaḥ saṅgas teṣūpajāyate saṅgāt sañjāyate kāmaḥ kāmāt krodho 'bhijāyate
Commentary
This verse begins the famous 'ladder of fall' - showing how the mind's downward spiral begins with simply dwelling on sense objects. Understanding this chain helps us guard our thoughts at the earliest stage.
