“Some sacrifice hearing and the other senses in the fire of restraint; others sacrifice sound and other sense objects in the fire of the senses.”
Sanskrit
श्रोत्रादीनीन्द्रियाण्यन्ये संयमाग्निषु जुह्वति | शब्दादीन्विषयानन्य इन्द्रियाग्निषु जुह्वति ||
Transliteration
śrotrādīnīndriyāṇy anye saṁyamāgniṣu juhvati śabdādīn viṣayān anya indriyāgniṣu juhvati
Commentary
Sense control is a form of sacrifice. Some withdraw the senses from objects; others consciously engage senses with objects as an offering. Both are valid approaches to spiritual practice.
