Chapter 6
Chapter 6: Path of Meditationध्यानयोग

6:2

What is called renunciation is the same as yoga, O Pandava. Without renouncing selfish purpose, no one becomes a yogi.

Sanskrit

यं संन्यासमिति प्राहुर्योगं तं विद्धि पाण्डव | न ह्यसंन्यस्तसङ्कल्पो योगी भवति कश्चन ||

Transliteration

yaṁ sannyāsam iti prāhur yogaṁ taṁ viddhi pāṇḍava na hy asannyasta-saṅkalpo yogī bhavati kaścana

Commentary

Sannyasa and yoga are essentially the same. Both require giving up selfish intentions. One cannot be a yogi while clinging to personal desires and expectations.
