“The person, seated in nature, experiences the qualities born of nature. Attachment to these qualities is the cause of birth in good and evil wombs.”
Sanskrit
पुरुषः प्रकृतिस्थो हि भुङ्क्ते प्रकृतिजान्गुणान् | कारणं गुणसङ्गोऽस्य सदसद्योनिजन्मसु ||
Transliteration
puruṣaḥ prakṛti-stho hi bhuṅkte prakṛti-jān guṇān kāraṇaṁ guṇa-saṅgo 'sya sad-asad-yoni-janmasu
Commentary
When consciousness identifies with nature and its qualities, it experiences them as if its own. This attachment to the gunas causes the soul to take birth in higher or lower life forms.
