“O best among men, the person whom these do not disturb, who remains steady in pleasure and pain, is fit for liberation.”
Sanskrit
यं हि न व्यथयन्त्येते पुरुषं पुरुषर्षभ | समदुःखसुखं धीरं सोऽमृतत्वाय कल्पते ||
Transliteration
yaṁ hi na vyathayanty ete puruṣaṁ puruṣarṣabha sama-duḥkha-sukhaṁ dhīraṁ so 'mṛtatvāya kalpate
Commentary
Equanimity in the face of life's dualities qualifies one for immortality. The steady person who is unmoved by pleasure and pain has transcended the limitations of material existence.
