“The pleasures that arise from contact with sense objects are sources of suffering, for they have a beginning and an end. The wise do not delight in them, O Arjuna.”
Sanskrit
ये हि संस्पर्शजा भोगा दुःखयोनय एव ते | आद्यन्तवन्तः कौन्तेय न तेषु रमते बुधः ||
Transliteration
ye hi saṁsparśa-jā bhogā duḥkha-yonaya eva te ādyantavantaḥ kaunteya na teṣu ramate budhaḥ
Commentary
Sensory pleasures are inherently unsatisfying because they are temporary. Seeking lasting happiness in fleeting experiences leads to disappointment. The wise look beyond temporary pleasures to lasting fulfillment.
