“Earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intellect, and ego—these are My eight separated material energies.”
Sanskrit
भूमिरापोऽनलो वायुः खं मनो बुद्धिरेव च | अहङ्कार इतीयं मे भिन्ना प्रकृतिरष्टधा ||
Transliteration
bhūmir āpo 'nalo vāyuḥ khaṁ mano buddhir eva ca ahaṅkāra itīyaṁ me bhinnā prakṛtir aṣṭadhā
Commentary
Krishna describes His lower (material) nature, consisting of five gross elements and three subtle elements. These eight form the basis of material creation and are manifestations of divine energy.
