Arjuna said: Those devotees who are constantly engaged in worshipping You with devotion, and those who worship the imperishable, unmanifest Brahman—which of these are better versed in yoga?

The Supreme Lord said: Those who fix their minds on Me and worship Me with constant devotion, endowed with supreme faith—I consider them to be the best yogis.

But those who worship the imperishable, the indefinable, the unmanifest, the all-pervading, the inconceivable, the unchanging, the immovable, and the eternal—

—controlling all their senses, equanimous everywhere, engaged in the welfare of all beings—they also attain Me.

Greater is the difficulty of those whose minds are set on the unmanifest, for the path of the unmanifest is difficult for embodied beings to attain.

But those who dedicate all their actions to Me, regarding Me as the supreme goal, meditating on Me with exclusive devotion—

—for those whose minds are fixed on Me, O Partha, I swiftly become their deliverer from the ocean of death and rebirth.

Fix your mind on Me alone, place your intellect in Me. Thus you will live in Me always, without a doubt.

If you are unable to fix your mind steadily on Me, O Arjuna, then seek to reach Me by the practice of yoga.

If you are unable even to practice, then be devoted to working for Me. Even by performing actions for My sake, you will attain perfection.

If you are unable to do even this, then, taking refuge in My yoga, renounce the fruits of all actions with self-control.

Knowledge is better than practice; meditation is better than knowledge; renunciation of the fruits of action is better than meditation. Peace immediately follows renunciation.

One who is not envious but is a kind friend to all living beings, free from possessiveness and ego, equal in happiness and distress, and forgiving—

—always content, self-controlled, with firm resolve, with mind and intellect dedicated to Me—that devotee of Mine is dear to Me.

One who is not a source of disturbance to others and who is not disturbed by others, who is free from joy, envy, fear, and anxiety—such a devotee is dear to Me.

One who has no expectations, who is pure, skilled, unconcerned, free from distress, and who renounces all undertakings—that devotee of Mine is dear to Me.

One who neither rejoices nor hates, neither grieves nor desires, who renounces both good and evil and is devoted—such a one is dear to Me.

Equal to friend and foe, equal in honor and dishonor, equal in cold and heat, pleasure and pain, free from attachment—

—equal in blame and praise, silent, content with anything, without fixed residence, steady-minded and devoted—such a person is dear to Me.

Those who follow this imperishable path of devotion as I have described, with faith, making Me their supreme goal—they are exceedingly dear to Me.
